Malachi 3:10–12
There is only one place in all of Scripture where God says: test me in this. And it concerns what you do with the first part of your money.
“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be provision in my house, and test me now in this — says the LORD of Hosts — whether I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you a blessing beyond measure”.Malachi 3:10
The tithe is the tenth part of what you receive. Not a donation of “whatever works out”, not what is left at the end of the month — the tenth part, set aside first. The Hebrew word (maaser) means exactly that: one tenth.
The tithe does not begin with regulations. It begins with gratitude — long before Mount Sinai:
God gives the address: into the storehouse, that there may be provision in my house. The storehouse is the place people are fed from. Today that is your church — the community where you hear the Word, where someone prays for you, where you are spiritually fed. God’s house supplied is a house ready to serve: the light is on, the doors are open, there is something to help with.
“I will rebuke the devourer for you, so that it will not destroy the fruit of your ground [...] And all nations will call you blessed, for you will be a land of delight”.Malachi 3:11–12
We did not invent these promises. All three stand in the text, one after another:
God does not promise that everyone who tithes will be rich. He promises something else: an open heaven instead of a closed one, protection instead of leaking away, and a life others look at and say — someone is blessing them.
Count the tenth part of your next paycheck and bring it to your spiritual home. And if you first want to set in order what matters more than money — start with prayer.
