Embassy of the Kingdom
A word to the Church that has sent light to the world — carry it home too.
For decades, you have sent missionaries around the world, sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ. Through your generosity, many have heard the Gospel, received help, and found hope. This is a beautiful and honorable legacy, and I am grateful for it.
Yet after two years in this beautiful land, I look with concern at the darkness that seems to be creeping into this country. I ask myself: can we attribute everything to intensified attacks from the forces of darkness? Or should we also ask whether the light within us has begun to fade?
Darkness appears where light is absent. This simple truth can also serve as a picture of our spiritual lives. When love, forgiveness, and faithfulness to truth begin to fade, fear, indifference, and hostility take the place of hope.
“You are the salt of the earth… You are the light of the world.”Matthew 5:13–14
This is both a calling and a responsibility. Salt must retain its flavor, and light must shine for everyone in the house.
So I appeal especially to you, Christians in America: do not let the light of Christ grow dim in your hearts. Carry it here, too — into your homes, your neighborhoods, your workplaces, and the lives of people with whom you struggle to agree.
It is not enough to talk about darkness. We must shine: by loving our neighbors, helping those in need, forgiving others, living honestly, and boldly bearing witness to Jesus.
“A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench.”Matthew 12:20
And if your light is barely flickering, do not lose hope. Scripture tells us that Christ will not snuff out a smoldering wick. Come to Him even in your weariness and weakness. He does not turn away those who need renewal.
America, for years you have carried light far beyond your borders. Today, tend to that light so that it shines brightly in your own home as well.
Do not let the light within you go out.
Let the light of Christ shine through you and illuminate America.
Do not extinguish JES USA
