Jerry and Anet Jackson started in 1972 with a tape-lending library called Hosanna. The name changed in 1995; the idea did not. Scripture is read aloud by native speakers, recorded, and given away.
Their own reporting counts audible Scripture in 1,477 languages and 860 gospel films, within reach of more than 80% of the world’s population, with a stated goal of a recording for every translated language by 2033. People listen three ways: on a phone, in a group gathered around a solar-powered Proclaimer, or through film and broadcast.
One practical note for anyone who already uses their app. Bible.is, launched in 2010, is being retired, and their own pages now point listeners to a new app called Hosanna — the ministry’s original name.
The ministry is named after its method — Romans 10:17, “faith comes by hearing.”
