Joy Ridderhof was a missionary recovering from illness in Los Angeles in 1939 when she began recording Bible stories so that people could hear about Jesus in their own heart language. The work she started as Gospel Recordings has been doing the same thing ever since.

The recordings are made by native speakers, and the catalogue now covers more than 6,700 languages — many more than any Bible translation has reached, because a short set of recorded Bible stories can be made in a language that would take decades to translate in print. They travel through the free 5fish app, on solar-powered players and on SD cards, and they play offline.
