Our Daily Bread Ministries

The daily devotional that began as a Detroit radio class in 1938 — now more than 60 million resources a year in 150 countries.

Facts confirmed against their own official pages on 5 September 2026. No one paid for a place here, and we earn nothing if you click.

It started in 1938 with a radio programme called the Detroit Bible Class, taught by Dr. M. R. DeHaan, a physician who became a Bible teacher. By the time he died in 1965 the broadcast was carried by 600 stations.

The devotional that grew out of that programme is what most people know: one page a day, a passage, a story and a prayer. The ministry describes itself as non-denominational and non-profit, and reports more than 60 million resources distributed in 150 countries through staff and volunteers in over 37 offices — in print, by email, in an app, as a podcast, and on radio and television.

One honest note for Polish readers. The language list on odb.org still links a Polish edition at codziennychleb.org, but that page now carries a farewell: the publishers write that „Nasz Codzienny Chleb” is no longer available in Polish, thank their readers for the years, and point them to odb.org to see which languages remain.

Worth knowing

The ministry began as a radio class in Detroit and still sends printed copies to readers who cannot get online.
